About Geotechnical research

Geotechnical research is very important and is necessary for the proper design and construction of any technical project on soil or rock. It aims to determine the geotechnical conditions and the parameters of mechanical behavior of the formations of the study area.

This is achieved through various geotechnical works (eg. execution of sampling drills) carried out in the field. In this context, soil and rock engineering tests are performed or soil and rock samples are taken.

In particular, a Geotechnical survey includes:

Check for available data from previous surveys in the area under consideration.

On-site investigation and recording of geotechnical or geological data of the area.

Execution of sample drillings.

Research wells and geophysical surveys.

Perform in-situ or laboratory soil or rock tests.

Installation of instruments for monitoring the level of the aquifer (pressure gauges) and the evolution of any creeping or landslide movements (inclinometers) or subsidence (elongation meters).

Chemical analyses or other methods if required to better investigate the geotechnical conditions of the project.
